Spring 2019
Next Steps (after Colloquium II)
Turn back to counter-narratives--> Create a narrative from the knowledge I have (comment from Robert).
Look into colors/typefaces/text/ornaments/forms --> how all these interplay
& their effects.
Questions to look into:
- Why do these images work?
- Which types do they address?
- How were they produced?
- What is the aim of the study?
Look at the interwoven: Western & Eastern cultures incorporation
Maybe look into the women in the Iranian Revolution (comment from Minou)
Look into the portrayal of Muslim women in Iran in the Western Media (comment from Minou)
Feedback from Colloquium II to consider:
Depending on the direction the project takes, the following approaches might be interesting:
- The visual discourse analysis (see Rose 2001) could offer the possibility to follow typical motifs across various cultural movements and thus to say something about continuities and breaks in the use of the motif (within terror regimes).
The project currently ignores the dimension of production and consumption of the designed images.
Further questions on production and reception do not have to be answered within the framework of the MA, but could become part of the research plan.
Walker's Production-Consumption Model (Walker 1989, 70) could offer an approach to include these perspectives.
The connection between images and content could be strengthened by comparing rhetorical figures in images with those in texts.
